Safeguarding principles, policies and practice (extended session)
- 1:00pm - 4:00pm
- John Locke Academy
The objectives for this session are for heads and governors to:
– clarify the range of issues that come under the ‘umbrella’ of safeguarding
– understand key elements of their roles in safeguarding
– be aware of significant guidance/resources
– explore tools for auditing safeguarding policies and practices
– action plan to ensure that a ‘predict and prevent culture’ prevails.
The context is the continued focus on safeguarding in school inspections and the following recommendation in the governance Handbook:
‘It is helpful if all board members have training about safeguarding, whether the board acts collectively or an individual member takes the lead. This will make sure they have the knowledge and information needed to perform their functions and understand their responsibilities.”
It is highly interactive and provides participants with practical tools to monitor and evaluate the impact of safeguarding practices on an ongoing basis.
Michele Robbins was one of the lead trainers in rolling out the national Safer Recruitment Course. She has delivered that programme in many schools and LAs since 2006. She regularly undertakes safeguarding audits and has had ‘hands on’ experience as a safeguarding governor.
